Skirting

Introduce the problem;

'When working with Architects and Interior Designers, we always have this confusion over Skirting boards - how much to keep, how much to replace, how much to get new'.

The temptation is to keep whatever exists and replace the bare minimum. At first glance, this appears to be the economically rational think to do. However there are many things to consider.

Matching Skirting = Impossible. Even though they use the same names, every manufacturers mould is going to have slight variations. Therefore it is basically impossible to match the skirting boards. Even when we try to create a the best possible join in a corner, in our opinion, it just incurs a lot of unnecessary work in blending and making good.

Unless you have a particularly special or interesting existing skirting board, we would always suggest getting completely new skirting for each room when refurbishing a room.

Custom skirting - very possible to make exact replicas of existing skirting. Take a sections away, joiner can make mould / spindle. Making the mould is the expensive part - each new linear meter reproduced thereafter is relatively inexpensive.
